Tokyo-based beatdown hardcore band Broken Life celebrated the release of their second album on April 29th with a show at Shinjuku Antiknock, supported by four other bands including In For The Kill. It's been a while since I shot a show and a hardcore gig in a small venue was a good reminder of what I was willing to put up with at a gig not so long ago - I came home with a few bruises, especially one shaped like the edge of a speaker across my shoulder. A souvenir? :)
Luckily, I think the photos are worth the discomfort! As expected, the lighting was just about manageable, with Broken Life's set mixing up the constant red lights of the previous act's performance with some other colours. I edited the white balance in Lightroom to rescue some skin tone and came out with a blueish theme for these images which is hopefully a little easier on the eye than mostly red.
There was one casualty of the evening, though. I got a few shots of drummer Imai, but I wasn't happy with them, so I would rather not have any available than put out a bad picture. Maybe next time?
